Split pea and ham soup: rinse 2 cups split peas. Sautée one diced white onion with butter and salt in Dutch oven. Add 1 clove minced garlic and sauteee another 30 sec. add 7 cups water and 1 pound ham steak and 3 strips bacon, the 2 cups of peas and thyme and bay leaves. Bring to a simmer and cook with lid on for 45 min. Then remove ham steak and add 2 chopped carrots and 1 chopped celery rib and with lid on cook another 30 min. Remove thyme, bacon and bay leaves and re add shredded ham steak. Season with pepper..,adapted from season 12 ATK

Impression: Pikesville Rye is a genuine find. This is one of our favorite ryes. Well worth picking up an extra bottle when your see it on the shelf of your local liquor store.
