The Yamazaki

Aged 18 Years

Tasting Notes

Single Malt

Japanese Whiskey

Color: Russet
Nose: Peat, Candied Oranges, and Floral Notes
Taste: Peat, Caramel, Tobacco, Leather and Citrus
Finish: Light with a slight honey note at the posterior palate towards the very end.
Body: Medium

Personality: George Takei

Impression: Yamasaki does a great job with their single malt whiskies. The nose is a classic single malt scotch heavy on the peat. When this whiskey hits your palate you immediately realize that this is an exceptional single malt. If your inclined to mix it with a splash of water you'll experience a much sweeter taste with the caramel and honey notes coming to the forefront.

Shrimp Tempura: peel and devein 1.5 pounds of jumbo shrimp so they are butterflied. Leave tails on. Make two small horizontal cross hatches in the ventral side so they do not curl when frying. Tempura batter- 1.5 cups AP flour and 1/2 cup corn starch add 1 cup seltzer water and 1 cup vodka and 1 whole egg. Mixing wet into dry. Heat vegetable oil to 375 and coat shrimp in tempura and cook 3-4 min. Season with salt and pepper. Soy ginger dipping sauce- 1/4 cup soy sauce, 3 tbsp Mirin , 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp sesame oil, 1 clove minced garlic, 2 tsp grated ginger, 1 finely minced scallion....adapted from ATK
